FORD TRANSIT ECONETIC IS THE SPEEDY CHOICE

Transit EconeticSpeedy Hire, the UK’s leading provider of hire equipment and support services is set to boost its green credentials by taking delivery of 19 of Ford’s super-efficient Transit ECOnetic vans.

The Ford Transit ECOnetic vans, supplied through Ford dealer Gordons of Bolton, will be used by Speedy’s engineers to provide rapid and efficient transport for maintenance calls around the UK. They join a fleet of around 2,000 vehicles – exclusively Ford.

The Ford Transit ECOnetic was selected for its superior fuel economy, tax benefits and best-in-class CO2 emissions.

Ian Leonard, Speedy’s transport and logistics director, said:  “We have set an ambitious target for the reduction of the company’s carbon footprint and we believe that the Ford Transit ECOnetic’s impressive environmental performance will help us achieve that. These first 19 vans will be closely monitored in service and if they live up to expectations then I am sure they will be the first of many to join the Speedy fleet.”

The Ford Transit ECOnetic is equipped with a 2.2-litre TDCi 115PS diesel engine and six-speed gearbox. Ford’s greenest Transit van features optimised engine mapping and longer gearing, along with aerodynamic wheel covers and a shift indicator, to help achieve a class-leading 189g/km CO2 figure and a combined fuel economy cycle of 39.2mpg.

Nick Halliday, Ford’s regional fleet manager, said: “Speedy Hire is one of many companies looking to meet its environmental targets by the adoption of the latest technology from Ford. I am sure that Speedy will find the Ford Transit ECOnetic a major advantage in its quest, and as emissions standards continue to tighten we expect other businesses to follow.”

New 4×4 Ford Transit for Mountain Rescue

It makes sense for a mountain rescue team to have a four-wheel-drive vehicle.  It was the flexibility of the Ford Transit that won over the volunteers of the Buxton Mountain Rescue Team.

Four-wheel-drive Ford Transit
The team’s new Ford Transit, which was handed over by supplying dealer GK Group Chesterfield, will enable the rescuers to get search and rescue personnel closer to where they are required, even in the depths of winter.
“A typical mountain search or rescue can involve quite a number of team members and an enormous amount of kit,” said deputy team leader Malc Needham. “Our old Transit was a lifeline, but this new one is all-wheel-drive and that will be a huge help to us in bad weather, as we experienced in the Peak District last winter.”
Buxton Mountain Rescue Team was called out 116 times last year, typically to bring assistance to walkers who have slipped and twisted or broken an ankle, to help locate missing walkers or tend to mountain-bikers or hang-gliders who have been injured, usually in areas of the National Park which a regular ambulance could not reach.
Malc said: “It took a lot of tin-rattling to raise the money to buy the new minibus. We have been fund-raising like mad, even though Ford and GK Group have given us an excellent deal.
“The Ford Transit Minibus began life as a 15-seater with a 140PS 2.4 TDCi engine, but has had a row of seats removed to facilitate the stowage of equipment and to allow a stretcher case to be carried if necessary. Further conversion work involved the fitment of blue lights and sirens, radio equipment and other emergency-service gear.
Shaun Wood, GK Group’s commercial sales manager, said of the new Transit: “It has been a delight to supply such an out-of-the-ordinary vehicle to the team. The minibus looks great finished in silver and with all the equipment it carries, will be a reassuring presence in the Peak District for years to come. It goes to show that Ford can deliver a vehicle to pretty much any specification that a customer requires.”

Ford Transits Galore for the AA

Ford Transits for the AAHundreds of Ford Transit vans have been ordered by the AA, increasing Ford’s share of the organisation’s 3,000-vehicle fleet to over 50 per cent.

The AA is more than doubling the 247 Ford Transits ordered in 2010 with The AA roadside rescue fleet gaining 450 new Transit vans. A further 50 will support the AutoWindshields division, which already operates a 100 per cent Ford Transit fleet.

Sarah Dopson, AA fleet manager, said: “The order of 500 vans is in recognition of the quality and performance of the Ford Transit. The Transit meets all our requirements for affordable running costs and is the best vehicle for the job. The 500 Transits currently on order could rise by the end of the year.”

Ford of Britain direct sales manager, Paul Henderson, said: “Ford and the AA have enjoyed a long and mutually beneficial relationship which is further strengthened by this new, large order of Ford Transits. We look forward to working with the AA to help maintain its status as the UK’s largest roadside assistance organisation.”
